Corinne Felgate’s practice questions the "normative" utility of objects/behaviours and the collective as well as the individual relationships we build with them. The work explores everyday tipping points andwhen objects cease to be the things we know them as.
The ordinary becomes extraordinary, the mundane theatrical, and the hopeful pathetic. Familiar materials are used to meddle with commonplace distinctions. This process results in objects, performances and photographs that simultaneously suggest both a relentless optimism and a piteous futility.
By interjecting ironic notions of theatricality upon human actions and everyday objects, stripping back or switching the contexts in which they occur, Corinne Felgate’s work ultimately aims to explore and question the ways in which we navigate through life.
