SE1 Studios

Working in partnership with Crisis, the homeless charity, Bow Arts have created 90 artists' studio spaces in a warehouse in SE1, within walking distance of London Bridge and Bermondsey underground stations.

The building, now known as The Bermondsey Project, is just minutes from Bermondsey Square and Bermondsey Street.  The area is rapidly becoming a very vibrant artistic hub. Our studios are on the same site as Southwark Studios and the Tannery Studios / The Drawing Room with the White Cube's new gallery space in Bermondsey Street is a 5 minute walk away

Opened in summer 2010, and expanded at the end of 2011, the spaces are particularly suited to emerging artists and recent graduates, and have proved enormously popular, now providing extremely affordable studio space for 120 artists .

Built with affordability in mind and designed to facilitate and encourage peer to peer networking, the studios are a stimulating creative envronment  This helps emerging artists make that difficult transition from college into a sustained professional practice.  SE1 Studios have been built around a semi open plan layout.  This maximizes the size and light of the spaces, and helps to create a communal atmosphere, rather than the 'closed corridor' effect that is sometimes encountered in traditional, larger studio set ups, which often leaves artists wondering “where is everyone?".

By building the spaces this way Bow Arts has also been able to keep costs to a minimum, allowing us to pass these savings directly on to artists.

There are 45 studios on each floor, ranging in size from mostly small to medium (80-200 square feet), and starting in price from £20 per week, inclusive of all costs including electricity charges.

Each studio has 1 double power socket. There are toilets and a large wash sink on each floor, and a 'kitchen' area for making tea, coffee etc. Large lift access from ground floor. 24 hour access, secure locks on ground floor and digital locks to each floor.
